Change in required arrival time

WSF has made what’s looking like a significant change in the rule about arrival time for reservation holders. Beginning with implementation of the spring schedule, reservation holders must have cleared the ticket booth at least 30 minutes prior to their sailing. Any later than that and the reservation holder will be sent to the stand-by line. According to an article in the Island’s Weekly, this is already causing problems and we’re nowhere near the busy travel season yet.

Timing your arrival may get tricky. Last summer reservation holders who arrived too early were turned away in Anacortes. Now this summer you’ll lose your reservation if you arrive too late. Could be interesting.

This issue was addressed at a ferry meeting last fall. The boats were leaving Anacortes with space still available and people in the stand by lanes that could have gone. The issue has to do with people making lots of reservations and then no showing – the ferry workers were trying to hold the reservations until sailing time and the deckhands couldn’t deal with the situation. The rule has ALWAYS been, show up 30 minutes in advance, just never enforced. Now they’re doing it.

The previous requirement was to be in the LINE 30 minutes prior to reservation or the reservation MAY be lost. The new requirement is to be at the TOLL BOOTH 30 minutes prior to reservation or the reservation WILL be lost. Big difference.

The FAC has brought this up to WSF as this change was made without any collaboration/communication with any of the various community partnerships.
